School Age Summer Camp STEAM'N Fun!

Welcome to Yahara River Learning Center!

Our recently opened new facility is conveniently located just off of Highway 51 for families in DeForest, Windsor, Sun Prairie, Madison and other communities in northeastern Dane County. Our programs are based on proven best practices in education.

We are more than a day care. We are a learning center – a learning center that is nature-based program for toddlers through school-age child care.
Our playground and facilities are centered around the belief that all children need nature in their lives, that it is a good thing to be messy and dirty, and that we all learn best through experiences.

Our center serves children starting at age 1 through 11.  We have high-quality preschool and 4K programs, before and after school options as well as summer camps  for ages 5-11.
We pride ourselves on teachers and staff who are professional, dedicated and highly trained.

Follow our progress!

We center our classroom time around an intentionally teacher-planned and play-based environment that changes as children’s abilities and interests evolve. We believe in a well-rounded experience for all children — including exposure to materials and activities that support math, literacy, art, science and social learning. We accomplish this in as natural of a setting as our facility will allow, using nature items, teaching science from the gardens and plantings on our property, and incorporating tree trunks for climbing and balance to practice motor skills.

We hope this approach creates a love and respect for our environment, as we strive to make each child feel safe, valued and encouraged to proudly contribute.

Teacher-planned and play-based
materials and activities that enrich math, literacy, art,
science and social learning.

Well-rounded activities that
evolve with children, making
each child feel safe, valued and
able to contribute proudly.

A setting in which natural materials are used in play, gardens help teach responsibility, science and math, and children use their imagination and problem-solving skills daily.

We work hard to employ a dedicated, highly trained and professional staff. Our lead teachers have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and understand how children develop and learn. Our 4K classrooms include a minimum of one lead teacher with a four-year teaching degree and license.

Supporting families and their children is our passion and focus. At YRLC, we believe that a high-quality, trained teaching staff supported by the Director and Co-Director is an important element we can offer.

Macy Buhler

Macy has over 23 years of experience in early childhood education both as a preschool and 4K teacher and a director and has a Masters Degree in Education. She has lived in DeForest for over 20 years.

Emily Pink

Emily has over 28 years of experience with various roles in the early childhood field and is presently full-time faculty at Madison College in the Early Childhood Associate Degree program.

Children ages 1 to 4 are invited to enroll in our full-day program. Open Monday through Friday 6:30am to 6pm. We have a high-quality, full day 4K program with a minimum of 3 full days per week (wrap around care). We also accept school-age students before and after school from any DASD elementary (additional busing fee) and for our Summer Camp, as well as any others if space allows. We’ve planned a partnership with the DeForest Area School District GT 4K for the 2018-2019 school year. Parents interested in 4K programming can contact the DeForest Area School District regarding their interest; parents not living in the DeForest Area School District can apply for Open Enrollment prior to the end of February of the preceding school year.

Enrollment fees to reserve spots for ages 1 to 4 are $100 per child and $50 for each additional child per family (non-refundable). School age spots for after school care are $50 for the school year (non-refundable). The enrollment fee for school age summer camp is $100 (refundable up to 2 weeks prior to camp starting).

Registration paperwork and fees are due seven days prior to your child(ren)’s start date. Fees will be applied toward the last week of tuition, and fee agreements will renew annually in August.
