ASSESSMENTS

Yahara River Learning Center uses goal-based assessments, Wisconsin Model of Early Learning Standards and individual portfolios to track each child’s individual development during their time with us. These are ongoing assessments, which means their teachers are continually watching, observing, and documenting each child’s development. The same tools are used with children 1 through 4K to allow for a more complete picture of your child’s development. By tracking your child’s development, our teachers are able to plan activities that are appropriate for each child’s individual developmental abilities.

GOAL SETTING CONFERENCES

Goal setting conferences will be held in the fall and spring each year. The goal of these conferences is to gain insight into your child’s development both in our center setting as well as the home setting. It will allow parents a time to openly share with teachers what goals you have for your children and allow teachers to share what goals they have for children. During conferences, your child’s development and any goals you may have for your child will be discussed. Parents are encouraged to request a conference if they feel it necessary between fall and spring conference times. The information shared will guide your child’s teacher in their lesson planning and implementation.

ASSESSMENT PORTFOLIOS

Our portfolios are completed in a physical format using a binder system. The portfolios will have photos and anecdotes pertaining to the specific child as well as conference forms, artwork, writing samples, individual goals, and developmental screener based on the age at time of screening. The documentation tool is aligned with the Wisconsin Model early Learning Standards as well as our assessment tool, Developmental Milestones of Young Children.

DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENER

ASQ-3, a developmental screener, is offered to all families enrolled at Yahara River Learning Center. This will be done annually at a minimum and can be requested to be completed by a family if concerns arise. Program staff will review the developmental screenings and discuss with families. If necessary, the program will provide referrals and resources to families as needed.

A parent/guardian may sign a waiver should they choose to not have their child participate in the developmental screener.
